A Look Inside the Rio Resort

The Rio is a casino resort situated in Klerksdorp, South Africa. The Rio de Janeiro carnival themed casino is a smaller affair than the themed casinos of Vegas which it draws inspiration from. However, the casino is very successful within South Africa and offers a cheaper experience than most American resorts, due to the current exchange rates. Rooms, food and tickets to entertainment at the Rio resort will be cheaper than the Vegas alternatives (with the hotel rooms from 610R, which is roughly £40) but does the complex have the facilities to justify that you pay a visit?

Gambling facilities

The Rio can not compete with the expansive casinos of Nevada, so any visitors expecting this will inevitably be disappointed. However, the Rio does have a good range of games available. The casino has 274 modern slot machines for gamers to take a chance upon, as well as a selection of 13 table games, including casino favourites such as blackjack. The casino also holds regular poker tournaments on Sundays, which attracts a good sized crowd of players. Obviously these figures are dwarfed by other well established casinos, but if it is solely gaming you are interested in, then the Rio is a good choice.

Hotel

The Peermont hotel is situated within the resort and offers a good selection of rooms, which cater to all needs. The hotel includes 50 ‘classic rooms’, 15 ‘superior’ rooms, 4 executive suites and one special assistance room. Whatever type of accommodation you require, you should be able to find it at the Rio resort.

Entertainment and dining

The resort is home to two restaurants, the Copacabana, which operates as an a la carte restaurant, but also as a carvery buffet. In addition to this, there is the F.L.A.G, which is a breakfast bar in the mornings and a cocktail bar from 1PM-11PM. Again, the same extravagance as the bigger Vegas resorts should not be expected. Visitors are limited to these two restaurants within the resort.

In terms of entertainment, the resort does offer various shows, catering to both children and adults. In addition to this, there are plenty of activities to engage in around Klerksdorp. Klerksdorp is a historic mining site, so the area will be particularly interesting for any history enthusiasts. For the more energetic visitor, there are paintballing, quad biking and scuba diving operators all based within Klerksdorp.

Overall, the Rio will be a pleasant experience for any visiting gambler. Those looking for a change to Las Vegas will feel at home at the Rio, due to themed casino – with all your favourite games being easily accessible. In addition to this, the hotel rooms are relatively cheap and have received generally positive reviews across the web. All in all, if you are in the area, or planning an alternative gambling holiday, you should definitely check out the Rio.
