The Monte Carlo Casino Unveiled

The Monte Carlo Casino is an entertainment complex in Monte Carlo that contains not only a casino, but also the Office of Les Ballets de Monte Carlo and the Grand Theatre de Monte Carlo.  It’s owned and operated by a public company in which the ruling House of Grimaldi family and Monaco government hold the majority interests.  This company also owns sports clubs, hotels, restaurants and nightclubs throughout the Principality of Monaco

The idea of opening a casino in Monaco came from Princess Caroline, wife of Prince Florestan I (1785 – 1856), as a way of saving the House of Grimaldi from bankruptcy.  The casino has undergone many revamps and expansions since then and until recently was the primary source of income for both the Monaco economy and the House of Grimaldi.

Monte Carlo Casino is the haunt of James Bond and has featured in many books and movies over the years, including Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted where the penguins and chimps get hooked on gambling.

Monte Carlo Casino has been a legend worldwide for 150 years with gaming rooms dedicated to slot machines, European and English roulette, Blackjack and Craps.  Le Train Bleu is a luxury restaurant specialising in traditional Italian cuisine.  The décor is in the style of a “wagon-lit” in Europe’s days of the Belle Époque and diners can enjoy an ambience and elegance that harks back to days gone by.

Monte Carlo Casino was designed by Charles Garnier (designer of the Paris Opera) in 1878 and is set in formal gardens with stunning views across Monaco.  The interior décor is redolent of the luxurious style of Europe’s Belle Époque, ensuring visitors (whether players or non playing) a truly unique experience and memories of a lifetime.
